The Back of the Mind is where Joy sent all the things that Riley was not quite ready to think about yet. When Anxiety sent Riley's old Sense Of Self into the Back of the Mind, Joy and the emotions set off on a journey to retrieve it. Later, Anxiety destroyed the Riley Protection System and left the emotions stranded in the Back of the Mind. Joy was lost, and looked at the memories, rewinding them for answers, but there was nothing. Joy was discouraged, saying that maybe when you grow up, you feel less joy. Anger called Pouchy, and made a pile of dynamite, which Joy blew up, sending an avalanche of rejected memories into the Belief System, so they could get back to Headquarters.
